As someone, who grew up in a city, which is centered around commuting, I always wondered, what it would feel like to not be bound to shuttling. The existence of places, which are not about traveling back and forth on a day-to-day basis, was not familiar to my younger self. Moreover, the kid, who was used to jumping off one metro to get into another tram, certainly could not have imagined a world without covering distances over distances in the highest of comfort.
Nonetheless, the curiosity to learn more about a world beyond mass transit was continually present. My interest in comprehending the privilege of living in an environment that offered me the luxury of not having to bother about travel restrictions grew. I was striving to contemplate the fact that there was barely a day, which required me to restrict my studies, my work or my social life due to a lack of transportation options. There simply was never a day, which provided a hindrance to reaching from point A to B. Some days might have required more time and detours, but the arrival at my destination was assured.
Despite everything, no matter how considerate I try to be or how often I show awareness of my entitlements, the truth that I still do not completely understand the gravity of those gains is undeniable. A notion, as simple as that of ending up in a place that never offers access to any of those benefits, highlights the emotions of edginess and apprehension in me. Not only does it awaken those feelings in me, but it underscores the opulence I am used to. It lays great stress on the many contributions to lavishness I am accustomed to. With that in mind, privileges do not end with the aforementioned example. It is a chain of advantages that one can rely on. It is a string of habits that seem inevitable. But more than everything: It is the negligence to value prerogatives, which are not distributed to each and everyone by any means.
